On the afternoon of June 27th, the Construction Newspaper organized a seminar with the theme "GIS and BIM Application - opportunities and challenges?". The program will create an open forum for sharing experiences and analyzing the opportunities and challenges in implementing GIS and BIM. Mr. Tran Phuc Minh Khoi - Deputy General Director of Portcoast, participated and shared his opinions at this seminar.

The digital transformation roadmap for the construction industry during the 2024–2025 period, with an orientation toward 2030, sets the goal of completing the institutional framework, developing technical standards, codes, and guidelines on Building Information Modeling (BIM) for State management tasks.

The plan also aims to develop digital platforms by building and implementing BIM and GIS platforms to be applied in planning, appraisal, permitting, construction management, and urban technical infrastructure management at the Ministry of Construction and local Departments of Construction.

Guests participating in the seminar on the afternoon of June 27.

So how is BIM being applied in Vietnam? What are the tangible benefits when integrating GIS-BIM? In the context of current challenges, can these two models truly bring practical effectiveness to the construction industry?

To gain a clearer understanding of this topic, the Construction Newspaper organized a seminar entitled: “GIS and BIM Application – Opportunities and Challenges?” with the participation of the following guests:

Mr. Bui Van Duong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Construction Economics and Investment Management, Ministry of Construction;

Mr. Ta Ngoc Binh, Head of the Digital Construction and Investment Economics Research Department – Institute of Construction Economics, Ministry of Construction;

Mr. Tran Phuc Minh Khoi, Deputy General Director of Portcoast Consultant Corporation (Portcoast);

GIS, short for Geographic Information System, is a computer system designed to collect, store, analyze, and display data related to locations on Earth. GIS helps us better understand spatial patterns, the relationships between factors, and supports decision-making across various sectors.

BIM stands for Building Information Modeling. It is a digital 3D model-based process used throughout the life cycle of a construction project—from design and construction to operation. BIM is not just standard 3D modeling; it is an integrated information system that helps stakeholders in a project collaborate more effectively.
