Implementing BIM for the Maintenance and Preservation of Metro Line No.1

On the evening of July 5th, the HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Portcoast Consultant Corporation to implement BIM in the maintenance and upkeep of Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Line).

According to Mr. Le Minh Triet, Chairman of the Board and General Director of HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1, BIM has been applied in the construction investment management of Metro Line 1 but has not yet been implemented in the maintenance, upkeep, and operation management of this line. Therefore, to optimize the management of maintenance, upkeep, and operation, the company decided to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Portcoast Consultant Corporation, one of the most capable consultants in digitizing infrastructure in Vietnam.

Accordingly, a 3D model will be built, using BIM-GIS platforms to simulate operations at stations, viaducts, tunnels, and the entire line; build incident scenarios and handling plans. This information will serve as input parameters for HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 to develop reasonable maintenance and upkeep plans to optimize the operation of equipment as well as maintenance and upkeep costs.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Portcoast Consultant Corporation, shared that the company's most modern technology and equipment will be utilized in the BIM construction process. Equipment such as USV drones and 3D Laser Scanning devices will be deployed to build a model that accurately reflects the actual structure. Information about the project will always be updated to provide HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 with a basis for effective maintenance and upkeep management planning.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan also mentioned that while the application of BIM in infrastructure construction investment is quite common globally, its use in maintenance and upkeep management is still uncommon. The decision by HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 to apply BIM in maintenance and upkeep management is a wise move to optimize their tasks.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Minh Triet added that HCMC already has a project to monitor the "health" of Metro Line 1. Information from this project will be integrated into the technology application project in maintenance and upkeep management, in collaboration with Portcoast Consultant Corporation.
