Metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) will be digitalized (BIM technology) for management and operation.

On the afternoon of July 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited (HURC1) and Portcoast, a port design consultancy and marine engineering company, signed an agreement to apply BIM - GIS technology to digitalize the entire metro line No. 1.

Representatives of the two companies exchange the signed agreement.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Portcoast Company, said that over the past time, the two companies have cooperated to survey and create 3D models for 11 stations of metro line No. 1.

The next step is to quickly develop a detailed implementation plan, complete and supplement the three underground stations, and the viaduct model. At the same time, prepare thoroughly for the detailed application when officially put into operation.

Currently, the application of BIM technology in the management and operation of urban railways is being strongly applied in developed countries. By applying this technology, metro line No. 1 will be on par with global technology.

On metro line No. 1, Portcoast will scan all underground stations along the route, creating a digital model that includes stations, tunnels, depots, etc.

The digital model must accurately reflect the actual structure 1:1 in terms of dimensions, information, location, and depth.

To ensure accuracy, Portcoast attaches sensors to monitor displacement, temperature, air quality, etc., creating a digital model that allows timely management and adjustment.

"The digitalization of metro line No. 1 (nearly 20km) will be a perfect start and a foundation for the next metro lines as well as many other important projects of Ho Chi Minh City..." Mr. Tuan affirmed.

Mr. Le Minh Triet, Director of HURC1, said that metro line No. 1 is currently nearing completion and preparing for commercial operation by the end of 2024.

To support the entire process of management, operation, and maintenance, the companies will collaborate to collect information along the entire metro line No. 1. From there, they will build a 3D model with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and integrate this model into the Geographic Information System (GIS).

BIM technology will optimize the management and exploitation of metro line No. 1.

BIM technology will aim to optimize the operational efficiency of the route.

Instead of traditional manual management, control center operators can easily determine the "health" of each component, know when maintenance is needed, and detect damaged components for timely repair.

Metro line No. 1 is 19.7km long, including 2.6km underground and 17.1km elevated. The total adjusted investment is 43.700 billion VND. The project route goes through districts 1, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City (HCMC), and Di An (Binh Duong).

The entire metro line No. 1 has three underground stations and 11 elevated stations: Van Thanh, Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, Thu Duc, High-Tech Park, Vietnam National University HCMC, and Suoi Tien Bus Station.
