On the afternoon of July 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited signed a cooperation agreement with Portcoast, a port design consultancy and marine engineering company, to apply the world's modern BIM - GIS technology to "digitalize" the entire metro line No. 1.

According to Mr. Triet, metro line No. 1 is currently nearing completion and is expected to commence commercial operations at the end of 2024.

To support the entire process of management, operation, and maintenance, the parties will collaborate to collect information along the entire metro line No. 1. From there, they will build a 3D model with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and integrate this model into the Geographic Information System (GIS).

"This model not only outlines the route but also updates each coordinate position to support the operation of metro line No. 1 using technology, aiming to optimize the line's operational efficiency.

Based on this, the control center operators can easily determine the "health" of each component, know when maintenance is needed, and even detect damaged components promptly to handle maintenance efficiently and save costs," Mr. Triet said.

In particular, Mr. Triet emphasized that based on this information model, managers can also simulate possible scenarios and incidents at the station and quickly devise the fastest handling plans.

In the long run, this model will also serve the development of the urban railway network, integrated into the public transport planning and urban traffic planning of Ho Chi Minh City.

"Digitalizing" metro line No. 1 accurately 1:1

At the working session, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Portcoast Port Design Consultancy and Marine Engineering Company, said that to date, the two sides have cooperated to survey and create 3D models for 11 stations of metro line No. 1.

From now until the end of 2024, it is expected to quickly develop a detailed implementation plan, complete and supplement three underground stations and the viaduct model. At the same time, prepare detailed steps to apply when officially put into operation.

For a project with the unique characteristics of a metro, the units apply world-leading technology to scan all the underground stations along the line, building a digital model including stations, tunnels, depots...

The digital model must accurately reflect the actual structure 1:1 in terms of dimensions, information, location, and depth. To ensure accuracy, Portcoast attaches sensors to monitor displacement, temperature, air quality... creating a digital model that allows for timely management and adjustments.
