Can Gio International Transshipment Terminal and the Prime Minister's Dedication
The Can Gio International Transshipment Port was the central topic throughout two meetings of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with Ho Chi Minh City regarding Resolution 98 and with the Southeastern provinces about regional planning on November 26

The project has long attracted public attention, and in this meeting, the Prime Minister created even more special interest when he remarked: 'A major policy, surpassing expectations, with a breakthrough nature, changing the situation, cannot have complete consensus. If we wait for complete consensus, then we will never get it done!'
With the 'mega' Can Gio port project, the Prime Minister's assessment is very fresh and decisive in making it a reality. However, in the history of constructing breakthrough projects in the country, that assessment is a link, inheriting the principles and decisiveness from previous governments...
Remember, more than 30 years ago, to 'turn around the situation' of the severe power shortage in the South, former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet was determined to 'go against the current' and build the 500kV North-South transmission line. The resolve of the head of the government at that time helped the project to commence and complete with benefits beyond expectations, overcoming many difficulties and doubts

More recently, if former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai had not had a 'far-sighted' vision during the economic crisis in 1998, Ho Chi Minh City might not have had the four-lane Trans-Asian highway to Moc Bai (Tay Ninh) so soon
At that time, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) planned to lend just enough to build two lanes, but the head of the government was determined to overcome difficulties to persuade for doubling the scale
That plan also faced opposing opinions, but many years later, looking back from a spacious northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, its full value is realized
Returning to the Can Gio international transshipment port project, with special attention, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh personally traveled more than 60km by boat along the river from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the proposed port construction site for inspection in July 2023
Speaking to Tuoi Tre while returning via Binh Khanh ferry, the Prime Minister said that along with the international transshipment port, the aspiration to turn Can Gio into an ecological, smart, and modern city is something 'we must be determined to achieve, and the central government believes it will be successful'.
And this time, again with the Can Gio international transshipment port, in a conversation with Tuoi Tre right after disembarking a late flight following the meeting, the Prime Minister said that everything is for the well-being and prosperity of the people and the nation.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to listen to and explain more to the opinions of experts and scientists regarding the project. 'Having put forward innovative and breakthrough solutions, it is normal to have differing opinions. The issue is how we can explain it and see that it is beneficial for the people and the country, then we should proceed with it,' said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's assessments of the Can Gio transshipment port project are not just a determination to have a major construction, but more importantly, a policy vision that continues the decisiveness and acceptance of challenges from previous governments, having recognized the great benefits for the country.
Just like the 500kV North-South transmission line, the Trans-Asian highway, or many other key projects that have been established, the suggestions and criticisms for the 'mega' Can Gio port today will be the 'bricks' and 'mortar' to further strengthen the project in the future. When everything is carried out with transparency and the highest determination!
