Cai Mep Thi Vai Planning will be revised soon

In the morning on October 5, 2016, the Provincial Party Committee’s delegations led by Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, the Member of Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of People's Council of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province paid a site visit to Cai Mep downstream area and Cai Mep - Thi Vai navigational channel. Participants were Mr. Tran Dinh Khoa, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Le Tuan Quoc, Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Lap, Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee, the representatives of the provincial departments and agencies. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Portcoast Consultant Corporation (Portcoast) who is in charge of preparation of Detailed Planning for Port Group No.5 and Exploitation and Operation Effectiveness Enhancement Scheme for Port Group. 5 and Cai Mep – Thi Vai’s port area participated in the visit.
Mr. Tuan reported to the delegation during such visit that there are 35 ports/terminals in Cai Mep Thi Vai area out of 57 ports/terminals belonged Ba Ria Vung Tau port system. Currently, among such 35 ports/terminals, there are 17 ports/terminals under operation with total cargo throughput capacity of 93 mil tons/year. Of which, 7 container ones occupies 7 mil TEUs/year. Paticular icupaly in Cai Mep downstream area, BRVT province plans to invest in a Logistics Center project totaling 800ha and one world class container terminal. Also from Portcoast’s representative, Cai Mep – Thi Vai port area enables to receive 18,000 TEU triple E vessel, such a big advantage because only 18 ports in the world are capable of such transport capacity.
Talking to the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh emphasized "Cai Mep - Thi Vai navigational channel is a valuable resource the nation in general and Ba Ria Vung Tau province in particular because of its natural depth enabling navigation of large tonnage container vessels. Therefore, it is necessary to identify such strength and then calculating all scenarios about maritime economy, defense and security matters so as to develop Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area to become international transshipment hub for the nation and in the region. The current Cai Mep – Thi Vai port area planning has many limitations and shortcomings, then will be revised to be more sustainable.
