Construction of Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc port begins

(SGGP).- On 16 May, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Transport Minister Ho Nghia Dung, Vice-Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Tin and many local and foreign investors was present at the ground-breaking ceremony of Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc port Construction Project – Phase 1 at Hiep Phuoc commune, Nha Be district, HCM City. This project will start the removal process of Sai Gon port out of city inner in line with the removal plan of sea port system on Sai Gon river approved by Prime Minister in 2005. The Sai Gon – Hiep Phuoc port (phase 1) will be built on 546 ha including three berths with total length of about 800m. The port will replace others along the Sai Gon river such as the Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi port and capable of handling 8.7 million tonnes of cargo each year.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai highly appreciated the Sai Gon – Hiep Phuoc port project and others in Hiep Phuoc Commune. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc would be the important driving force for developing marine economy of Ho Chi Minh city in particular and of entire region in general. He also requested that the port removal had to be attached with port development in modern trend satisfying not for only short-term but also for many coming decades.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai visited the head office of Portcoast. After listening to the fact that Portcoast was the main consultant for almost sea ports in Vietnam and currently carrying out the new Sea Port masterplan with outlook 2050, The Deputy Prime Minister praised Portcoast and reminded its staff to further study and improve in an attempt to deeper and wider integration to the world in field of consulting provision.
