Minister of
Transport met with People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City

On September
23, 2011, at the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the delegation from the
Ministry of Transport led by Minister Dinh La Thang, member of Party Central
Committee, together with Deputy Minister Ngo Thinh Duc, Pham Quy Tieu, Truong
Tan Vien and leaders of Departments under the Ministry of Transport, had a
meeting with leaders of People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. From People's
Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, there were Mr. Le Hoang Quan, member of Party
Central Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin,
Vice Chairman of People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tai, former Chairman of
People’s Committee, and leaders of Departments and Authorities of Districts in
Ho Chi Minh City.
Attending the
meeting and being on behalf of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Deputy
Director of the Administration Do Hong Thai reported a number of issues related
to port and maritime industry. He also made some suggestions such as: quickly
constructing access roads to the ports of the city, especially the
inter-provincial Road 25B to Tan Cang Cat Lai and 1.8 km long road linking to
Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port; promptly completing procedures of ground handing over to
Saigon Port (phase 2) and Tan Thuan Dong Port in Hiep Phuoc area; hastening the
progress of dredging of Soai Rap channel to the depth of -9.5 m, this is the
project of experimental dredging in different depth levels, it is required to
keep on using results studied by Portcoast to ensure the quality of the project;
speeding up the approval process of master plan of ports relocation as a basis
for enterprises to be relocated and carry out projects to get money for
implementing relocation plan.
At the
meeting, Minister Dinh La Thang said that Ho Chi Minh City needs to have a
breakthrough structure to construct an overall transport system of road,
waterway and airway in the city. The City should have its own way to develop,
not necessarily to follow the same way of other regions in the country.
